A family from Pennsylvania visited the park last January.
Nine-year-old Amelia Reese spent time with the park’s volunteers learning about manatees and got to hold manatee rib bones and touch manatee teeth.
Six months later, she was still thinking about Manatee Park and its volunteers when she began to plan her June birthday party.
Amelia wanted to educate her friends about manatees and asked for money to donate to the park’s volunteer program instead of getting presents.
She put up some manatee posters from the park, invited 23 friends and raised $163.

The money has been deposited directly into the Manatee Park Donation account, which supports educational programs and the volunteer program.
